Balloon ride over Diksmuide
The wide IJzer plain around Diksmuide is among the calmest flying areas in the Westhoek. Few obstacles, sweeping views in every direction, and a polder landscape of ditches, meadows and scattered farmsteads that unfolds beneath you like a map. The IJzertoren tower rises high above the landscape and is recognisable from afar, while the Dodengang trench and the bird-rich Blankaart nature reserve also lie within our usual flying area.
We launch near Diksmuide or Merkem, depending on the wind. This area is excellent for a first balloon ride: the wind here is generally predictable and the launch site spacious. Because we're close to the airports of Koksijde and Ostend, our pilot always takes the airspace towards the coast into account when plotting the route.

Every flight lasts at least an hour, at varying altitude and carried by the wind.
