Safety & Weather

What if the weather doesn't cooperate?

Of all the questions we get when booking, most of the uncertainty is about the weather. Understandably so: ballooning is only possible in calm conditions, and that simply isn't the case every day in our region. On this page we explain exactly how we assess that, and what happens if a flight can't go ahead.

The most important thing to remember: safety always comes first with us, and rescheduling due to weather never costs you anything.

Threshold at 20 km/h

We don't fly above a wind speed of 20 km/h. Rain or thunderstorms also rule out a flight.

Decision around midday

We follow the forecast closely and let you know in good time whether that day's flight will go ahead.

Always free rescheduling

If the flight can't go ahead due to weather, we reschedule to a new date at no extra cost.

What our pilots look at

Wind speed

The most important factor. Above 20 km/h, take-off and especially landing become too unpredictable, and that's a risk we don't take.

Wind direction

Direction matters too: certain directions bring the balloon too close to busy roads, built-up areas or military zones.

Precipitation & thunderstorms

Rain makes the balloon envelope heavy, and thunderstorms are of course out of the question — if in doubt, we don't fly.

Visibility

Fog or low cloud limits visibility for the pilot, which makes a safe flight impossible.

The pilot's decision

Ultimately our pilot decides, drawing on decades of experience. When in doubt, a flight is rescheduled — that's our starting point, not the exception.

And if my flight is rescheduled?

No, rescheduling due to weather is entirely free. You simply choose a new date that suits you.

That can happen, especially in an unsettled season. We keep rescheduling free of charge until the weather cooperates — there's no limit on the number of reschedules.

There's no need — we follow the forecasts closely and contact you ourselves as soon as we know whether the flight will go ahead. If you're still unsure, feel free to call.
